Many years ago I wrote for a blog called Craft Storage Ideas, which has long since departed the Internet, but I wanted to bring back this idea I shared there for ways to use mug racks in craft rooms.

I’ve had a little mug rack I bought at a local vintage store in my craft space for years, and I use it to hold scissors and sometimes some cute decor.
Back in the Craft Storage Ideas days I also kept a roll of packing tape on it because I was doing a lot more mailing then than I am now.
Other Ways to Use Mug Racks in Craft Rooms
I went searching for more mug racks in craft rooms to share, but I didn’t find a lot.

Hammons Nest shared a similar idea for using a mug stand to hold scissors, which you can see on Facebook. I like the idea of putting smaller scissors on the shorter pegs, but I don’t have a lot of short scissors and wouldn’t want to keep them where my rack lives.

Simply {Darr}ling has this post about using a mug rack for washi tape storage, which is also a great idea. You could even combine the two if you’re a paper crafter and store some scissors and tape on the same stand. This way you can easily transport things to your workspace and quickly put them away. Win-win.
Tips from the Past

Using a mug rack to hold scissors is a popular use, as was also shown in this photo from the now-defunct blog Allsorts.

She also used one for ribbon, which I love. It’s nice because you can keep the spools on the pegs and just pull out what you need and trim it right there. This would be good for me as I have two spools of ribbon currently sitting on my desk from a project I finished (checks notes) two weeks ago.

And if you want to keep the mugs on your mug rack you can do something like in this old (no longer with us) post from Better Homes and Gardens, where they used the mugs on the craft room mug rack to hold markers. This same idea might work for embroidery floss, rick rack and elastic, or any little things you’d like to stow together in your space.
Do you have a mug rack in your craft space? I’d love to hear your ideas for using mug racks in craft rooms!
